Asda has reshuffled its management team, amid a slew of departures and arrivals to the business.
The supermarket confirmed its chief transformation officer Mark Simpson was stepping down from his role “by mutual consent,” The Grocer reported.
Simpson joined Asda back in 1997, and has held various senior positions such as chief supply chain officer and vice president supply chain.
It is thought that the chief transformation officer position will no longer exist following his exit with many of his responsibilities handed over to ex-Morrisons CIO Matt Kelleher, who arrives at the grocery giant later in July.
Simpson’s departure comes amid delays in Asda separating its IT systems from its previous owner, Walmart.
Last month, the supermarket revealed it was outsourcing over 100 of its IT staff to an Indian-based supplier in a move sparking fears of job cuts, as the supermarket sought to cut costs.
Meanwhile, Iceland group buying director Andrew Staniland is set to join the supermarket in a VP role next March.
The appointment follows Asda poaching the retailer’s chief customer, marketing and digital officer David Devany as its new vice president for ecommerce last week.
Additionally, Asda’s vice president and commercial director for food, Paul Gillow, is understood to be stepping down from the company after 21 years.
Vice president for retail north Kevin McBride is also retiring from the grocer after 27 years.
Former Morrisons and Tesco executive Gary Mills has bowed out of joining Asda, after being hired by the grocery giant just weeks before, The Telegraph reported.
Mills had been announced internally as Asda’s new interim retail director in June, however it is thought he has changed his mind over the appointment.
