Boots ‘biggest ever’ Black Friday sale causes website meltdown

Boots app and website crashed repeatedly amid its Black Friday sale yesterday, leaving many shoppers frustrated.

Many issued complaints that they had been locked out of Boots’ website on Tuesday morning, while others said the health and beauty retailer’s app would not load, The Telegraph reported.

Some were also shown a message admitting the website “rather busy with Black Friday shoppers” and telling them they had been “temporarily placed in a virtual queue”.

A Boots spokesperson said it had experienced “extremely high demand” on its website on Tuesday.

They added: “To manage demand, a temporary queuing system was put in place for a short period of time. The site quickly returned to normal.”

The outage came during what Boots has called its “biggest ever” Black Friday sale in the days building up to 29 November, when the official shopping event takes place.

The health and beauty retailer has over 22,000 promotions running throughout the month.

Black Friday has grown increasingly popular UK since Amazon introduced the discount day in 2010, with most high street and online retailers now launching pre-Christmas deals.

Meanwhile, Boots launched its festive advert last week, featuring Bridgerton actress Adjoa Andoh.
