eBay UK has launched a new trade-in option, enabling customers to recycle their old tech while earning extra cash.
The online giant’s new service covers popular devices across eight categories, including phones, tablets, smartwatches and consoles, with no upfront fee.
Through a partnership with Fonehouse, eBay will inspect, repair, and refurbish the devices for resale on its marketplace.
Customers can easily determine the trade-in value of their items by entering product details online, then have 14 days to send their devices for free. Fonehouse will then securely erase the product data with the item insured upon postage.
Once the device is processed, users can choose to receive payment either as an instant eBay coupon, which can be used towards purchasing an upgraded device, or via a direct bank transfer.
To further incentivize trade-ins, eBay is offering an additional £50 for selected devices traded in between 9 December 2024 and 3 January 2025, on top of the assessed trade-in value.
This new initiative is part of the marketplace’s ongoing efforts to encourage tech recycling and provide a simple way for customers to get cash for their old devices while promoting sustainability.
