Morrisons in Christmas chaos with cancelled orders, delayed deliveries and failed discounts

Morrisons has issued an apology as customers were unable to access discounts on their festive shopping due to issues with the More loyalty card system.

The supermarket has also been hit with complaints over cancelled online orders during the crucial festive shopping period, particularly affecting click and collect services.

A spokesperson for the retailer confirmed that the system issues were impacting some loyalty card discounts, and said: “For More Card customers who have Morrisons Fivers to redeem, these will be done manually in store by colleagues. And if More Card prices are not registering, we will apply a 10% discount to the customer’s entire shop.”

Morrisons has also advised click and collect customers to wait for an email confirming that their orders are ready for collection before heading to stores.

It acknowledged that some home deliveries may be delayed, and said: “Some home delivery orders may be arriving late today – and we will be communicating directly with those customers affected.”

“We sincerely apologise to our customers for this inconvenience – Your Morrisons Team.”

The problems have come at a critical time for the grocer, with today forecast to be the busiest shopping day of the year with £1.13bn expected to be spent in-store.

The issue has sparked frustration, with customers taking to social media to vent their anger. Morrisons is currently trending on X amid the flurry of issues.

One customer said: “Hope you’re not hoping to get any deals at today or use your card. Conveniently they are all down across all stores! Busiest shopping day of the year! No refunds apparently either.”

Morrisons’ website also went down briefly, displaying a “502 bad gateway” error message, which added to the inconvenience.

On Facebook, customers claimed their Christmas orders, including essential items like turkey and puddings, had been cancelled without warning.

“Half my Christmas shopping isn’t coming including the turkey and puddings and they were ordered a month ago,” one person wrote.

Despite the issues, retail analysts predict that supermarket sales will exceed £13bn for the first time this December, marking a record festive season. However, Morrisons’ technical difficulties have raised concerns over potential damage to customer trust and profitability.
