Ocado shoppers missing Christmas essentials after warehouse malfunction

Hundreds of Ocado orders have been delivered to shoppers missing essential Christmas food items following a malfunction at one of the online supermarket’s Customer Fulfilment Centre’s (CFC).

Some customers said their orders were missing chilled and frozen products, with others claiming to be without dozens of items, Mail Online reported.

One X (formerly Twitter) user commented: “Well thanks very much @Ocado – due to deliver our Christmas order between 8 & 9 this evening and didn’t show up. That’s Christmas ruined for 16!! And a £50 voucher doesn’t come close to compensating! You’ve lost 20 year customers.”

Another said: @Ocado for the second year in a row, We’ve booked a Christmas shop in October and you’ve sent us a message 2 hours before delivery telling us 14 items were out of stock and 8 items substituted. My partner has celiac and you subbed her gf dessert for a bread and butter pudding.

It is understood that the issues took place at the online supermarket’s Erith CFC, which processes around 200,000 orders per week.

An Ocado spokesperson told Mail Online: “We are aware that a small proportion of orders were not delivered as expected.

“This does not meet our usual high standards and we understand the inconvenience this will have caused, especially at this time of year. We are proactively reaching out to apologise to those affected.”

It is not the only supermarket experiencing technical difficulties in the days before Christmas. Morrisons is offering its More Card loyalty members 10% off their whole shop today (24 December) as an apology for the glitch on Monday that left thousands of customers unable to access exclusive member pricing.
