JD Sports has completed the acquisition of French sneaker retailer Courir in a €520m (£433m) deal, following European Commission approval as the group continues to expand its presence in Europe.
The sportswear giant said “Courir is a market leader in sneakers in France”, which is Europe’s largest sneaker market.
It said the move “reinforces our position within Europe” as Courir operates 323 stores across France, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Luxembourg.
It also operates 36 franchise stores across North West Africa, the Middle East, and French overseas territories, along with three Naked stores, a premium concept focused on women’s sneakers.
JD Sports CEO Régis Schultz said: “The completion of our acquisition of Courir is an exciting milestone for our Complementary Concepts strategy in Europe.
“This acquisition will broaden the JD Group’s customer reach, adding a more female, fashion-conscious, and older customer base to complement our core customers.”
As part of the European Commission’s approval, JD Sports will divest 15 Courir stores in France and all six of its Portuguese stores to German sneaker business Snipes in Q1 FY26. These stores will continue to operate under the Courir banner until they are sold.
In 2023, Courir reported revenue of €725.8m (£604m) and profit before interest and tax of €50.3m (£41m).
“We’re excited to welcome Courir’s management into the JD Group and look forward to working with Pierre Chambaudrie and his team to continue developing the brand across Europe,” Schultz added.
