Toys retailer The Entertainer has taken to social media to playfully mock John Lewis’s attempts to price match the retailer.
The Entertainer, run by former John Lewis Partnership COO Andrew Murphy, is one of 25 retailers the department store is now price matching with its relaunched Never Knowingly Undersold pledge.
However, it appears on some products, John Lewis’ attempts to match the toys specialist’s prices have been unsuccessful.
The toy retailer posted on X, formerly Twitter: “Apparently some guy called John thinks he can match our prices?” alongside an image of the Disney Wish Asha of Rosas Doll and Travel Pack, which is currently being sold online by The Entertainer for £6, while John Lewis is selling the product for £9.60.

John Lewis boss Peter Ruis relaunched Never Knowingly Undersold on Monday, two years after the price match was scrapped.
Ruis admitted that its previous pledge was “not fit for purpose” when it was ditched in 2022, as staff were left relying on pencils, spreadsheets, and trips to other shops to keep track of prices at competitors.
The department store is instead using AI to match prices in its “reimagined” pledge after it signed “a multi-million pound contract with a new technology called Quicklizard,” according to Ruis.
The department store revealed yesterday that it had an “exceptional” customer response to the return of Never Knowingly Undersold.
Ruis said: “After a week of the relaunch, I can tell you it’s been exceptional, with some incredible sales and some incredible traffic across both big channels,” he said, adding it had 55,000 more organic visits to its website every day so far.
“It’s affecting all of our assortments. We’re seeing a very strong buzz across areas that you wouldn’t say are naturally part of this conversation, like own-brand bedding or nursery.”
