Greggs is set to open a Champagne bar at Fenwick department store in Newcastle in what it said will be “the UK’s most premium Greggs”.
The bar at Fenwick will launch on 24 October in the department store’s food hall, opening from 11:30am until store closing on a reservation-only basis. It will open until 31 December.
The “indulgent” menu, specially created by Fenwick executive head chef Mark Reid in collaboration with Greggs, will see the sausage roll maker’s classic savoury menu served with a range of contemporary and “in vogue” condiments.
The tie-up follows the fine-dining pop-up Bistro Greggs that the pair ran last December in the department store.
With over 1,700 Steak Bakes sold at last year’s pop-up, this year’s menu sees the pastry staple served with a peppercorn aioli, its famous sausage, bean & cheese melt “is taken to new culinary heights” with the pairing of bloody mary ketchup, and the classic sausage roll has been revamped with the pairing of a hot honey chilli sauce.
For the first time, Champagne enthusiasts will be able to pair their bakes and rolls with a selection of handpicked Champagnes served by the glass or bottle, including Bollinger Rosé and Laurent Perrier with the Louis Roederer Cristal available at £75 per glass, or £425 by the bottle.
For dessert, there is also a host of signature cocktails inspired by the baker’s sweet treats.
Customers can order a “Yum Yum Twist”, a sweet, sugar-glazed cocktail crafted with rum and real Yum Yums, a “Cream Éclair” that features vanilla vodka and dark chocolate liqueur, and a non-alcoholic “Peach Melba” cocktail.
Fenwick strategic partnerships director Leo Fenwick said: “After the phenomenal success of last year’s Bistro Greggs at Fenwick, we are proud to once again partner with the fellow North East icon, Greggs, to launch Greggs Champagne Bar at Fenwick offering a fun and truly unique costumer experience.
“This pop-up enhances our growing restaurant offer which continues to evolve through unexpected collaborations and new concepts bringing customers a truly memorable in-store dining experience.”
The bakery giant’s customer director Hannah Squirrell added: “Whilst Champagne and Greggs might not be the most immediate food and drink pairing, following the success and reaction to our Greggs Bistro last year, we’re excited for the launch of the Greggs Champagne Bar at Fenwick.
“Hopefully everyone who visited us last year, and many more, will enjoy the fun and unique experience that’s been created and discover that a chilled glass of Champagne accompanied by a sausage toll will be the hottest ticket in Toon for 2024.”
